For decades the role of wall care powder in energy efficiency has been underestimated. Earlier it was believed that strong structural buildings are those that are made up of blocks and bricks with no cavity. The durability of the wall is measured with solid dwellings of cement or wall polish. Solid walls buildings are the most common construction that can be seen everywhere. A lot of new researches have been conducted on masonry units that changed the perspective of people. Now the importance of wall care powder in conserving energy is considered as an aspect while constructing a new building.

The measurement of the thermal conductivity of the skin coat is measured with U-value. The ideal U-value for wall polish power should be around 1.3–1.4 Wm−2 K−1 to provide thermal resistance to the wall. However, this measurement differs on the type of masonry units that you are choosing for construction. Supposedly you are choosing solid bricks for constructing the wall then to provide the ideal U-value the thickness of brick must be 220 mm and it should be coated with the dense plaster of 12 mm. Today, the modern bricks are manually designed 220 mm long for bearing the load of masonry walls.

One of the primary reasons that normal brick walls are not able to regulate the temperature of the walls is ‘Air Cavities’. It means the air penetrates the house through the sides or spaces between the bricks. As bricks are made up of different patterns to construct the walls, spaces between ‘headers’ (straight aligned bricks) and ‘stretches’ (side laid bricks) allow the air to permeate inside the house. To cease this air perforation you should apply a 5-10 mm wall joint of ThermoShield. You should keep in mind that the length of the ‘header’ by width should be more than the width of the ‘stretcher’. This will build a solid wall segment.

Some of the common occurrences in buildings are cracks, dampness, and shrinkage of the walls. The reason for this is constant exposure to the sun, water penetration, and weather intrusion. The masonry units used for construction are bricks, mortars, or sandstones which are porous thus they have water absorption capacity.

Even if there are chances of 1% water intrusion in the wall, it can cause decay in the entire building. Thus, the wall care coat is an essential thing to protect walls from external damage. The improper plaster could lead to holes in pipes and a weak drainage system. Hence, it is essentially important to use a wall care coat that is waterproof, durable, and protects from harmful UV radiations.

The modern ETICS used for the exterior walls are easy to apply, economic in cost, and protect the wall for a longer time. The thermal insulation wall polish power is equipped with expanded polystyrene (EPS) which provides continued thermal insulation to the edifice. Thus, the consumption of the energy decrease with constant thermal condensation to the wall. The exterior wall of the building requires high insulation protection as compared to the interior one due to its constant encounter with the changing environmental circumstances. However, there is no need to apply a thick layer of wall skin coat. A good quality skincare coat provides the best results with a thin layer coat applied on the wall. PETRA BUILDCARE ThermoShield and ThermoPlast is an Acrylic co-polymer silicon-based water repellent wall coating. The thermal resistant coat is a unique combination of conventional cement with Hollow NanoSphere Technology. The wall skin coat is FDA-approved, eco-friendly, and provides long-lasting protection to the wall.

Guidance for the application of ETICS components on the wall

  • The wall polish powder that you have chosen for coating on the wall must have a workable consistency.
  • The skin coat must have high compression strength and improves the mechanical property between cement and its substrate.
  • The wall care coat must be crack-resistant, impact-resistant, and tolerate seasonal changes with effective strength.
  • The wall skin coat should be applied with the suitable primer to provide a matt finishing touch to the wall.
  • Before choosing any wall care coat you must check whether the product is following International safety standards or not. The chemicals used in the wall skin coat should not harm the environment.
